I always have an autobiography or a biography on my nightstand just begging to be read. As often as I can, I accommodate. I love reading about people. What makes them tick? What can I learn from their challenges? What value do they bring to their world? Too, I love to discover different writing styles.
I hope you have a love of reading true stories that leave you with a sense of redemption. If you don't, try a few and see if you don't get hooked as well.
In the workshop we share our fav auto/biographies from other authors. Often it broadens our own reading selection. Just another reason why meeting in a group is productive!
*Note: I try and read about various types of people, yet I am selective. I have been known to start a book only to find it was filled with so much dismay, language, and sex that I closed it never to look at it again. I did read a biography of Natalie Wood as she had been one of my favorite actresses. I was saddened that she made some of the choices she did, yet being a counselor, I could understand how a person could have so many issues being reared by a confused parent. I started a book on Marlyn Monroe and quickly closed it. What I did read made me realize just how vile Hollywood can be, and how it can eat a person alive. Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley was loaded with language. I don't think I have ever read a book with so many curse words; it did open my eyes. He was definitely one gifted but confused person. So sad.
OK, folks, maybe you think I am way too old fashioned. Maybe. And I will probably stay that way.
